28 Apr Why Now Is The Time To Go Plant Based
Just a few years ago it was very difficult to consume a plant based “Vegan” diet if you didn’t make your own food at home. Today, most restaurants, fast food joints and supermarkets have a wide variety of options. Heck, there are even all Raw food restaurants right here in NYC!!
Let me give you 5 reasons out of the endless amount of reasons why you should eliminate animal products from your next meal…
- You can get over illness faster (Strengthening the Immune System)
- You can veganize your favorite foods
- Maintaining your weight without effort (More Fiber for fuel & less calories)
- Being Vegan is actually more affordable than you think.
- Meat often gets contaminated (with feces, blood & hormones->top sources for food poison & toxins )
But it doesn’t stop there…
It is evident that we are in a health crisis world wide. But when you look at the U.S, we spend more on health care than any other country in the world. When you start looking into the numbers they are staggering! In 2017 the U.S spent about 3.5 trillion on health care!!
Shortly after my mothers passing from Cancer in 2018 i was opening up her mail and reviewing her medical bills and could not believe what my eyes were seeing. From February to July she had an outstanding bill for 2 Million Dollars! And the not so funny thing is that there were no other options?
Assimilating the crisis is the fact that we do almost nothing in our society to prevent illness and disease, and do not acknowledge that lifestyle choices have a direct impact on our health. Given in present times having unlimited access to social media has allowed people to share their stories from one side of the world to the other. This is bringing new heights of awareness to how our food choices can help prevent disease.
But even when thousands of people across the world are telling the same story all of our money and research still goes to more pills, quick fixes and more profits for pharmaceutical companies.
Although the Pharmaceutical industry is pocketing trillions annually by providing temporary solutions, there is a huge shift that has been happening globally. There is a demand that has become powerful enough for looking at the body as a whole through nutrition, YES, emotions and even our environment.
We can attribute that shift to not only stories being told but to tons of comprehensive research that has saved countless of lives. These studies are coming directly from health professionals like Dr T Colin Campbell, PHD who conducted the most comprehensive study on health and nutrition ever documented …“The China Study”. Proving that a plant based diet can do things like dramatically lower risks of heart disease, diabetes and even Cancer. Or Dr Neil Barnard MD and his research team conducting studies to see what diet alone could do and uncovering that participants on diabetes medications were able to reduce or discontinue them in just 12 weeks after eating a plant based diet.
Veganism is not a trend, it is not a fad but it is a growing awakening that is spreading globally with force.
Have you seen the many viral videos from things like making bacon out of carrots, ricotta cheese out of tofu, Steak out of Cauliflower, & even cheesecake made from cashews. The possibilities are endless, the flavors are mind blowing and you get nutritional value from every single bite. Along with those benefits come an abundance of natural fiber which helps restore digestion avoiding constipation. Not only loosing weight accumulated from fatty animal foods like dairy but keeping those extra pounds off for good without counting the calories.
Another advantage is that you don’t have to dig deep in your pockets to bring these healthy earthy foods to your table. With awareness comes access, and with access and growing demand it reduces cost. It’s as simple as replacing your convenient branded cheese to carrots, potatoes and onions for a smooth queso sauce! Yes, you can make cheese from blending these three vegetables after a boil and seasoning with your favorite spices and some nutritional yeast. What does all this add up to? About 25% cheaper than what you would pay for something on the shelf.
We don’t think about how food gets to our table other than just picking it up at the grocery store.
You don’t think about animals being tortured and abused because you don’t have to. The process is erased and all that we care to know is the satisfying taste left in our mouths. We’re not raising animals and allowing them to live long ethical lives like we used to. Factory farming has taken over where ethics, our environment and our health go out the window. Animals are crammed together forced to live in conditions that are unthinkable. They cant move, are pumped with steroid hormones, they grow massively so quickly that they get infections and on top of all that they live amongst their own feces.
Diseases can get transmitted from animals to humans. The evidence of that is SARS, Bird flu, swine flu, aids and now possibly even Corona Virus proving that viruses can move around between species. Something that should not be disregarded is that animals get Cancer to! So not only are you eating animals that laid in their poop their whole lives, are infected due to cruel environments and get disease just like you and me. But all of that my friends is what you and your loved ones are putting into your body.
My mother always said “We live to eat, instead of eating to survive”. Taste is important I don’t disagree, but nutrition and value matter most!
Eating a plant based diet is a lot easier than you think. Sometimes its as easy as removing one item from your dish and replacing it with another. It is overwhelming because we make it complicated in our heads by making excuses instead of taking action.
I know it is not easy in your setting to be the one person that has a different need but truth is that i was that one person. I was the only one in my family, my boyfriend later to be husband ate terribly and people felt sorry because i was missing out on all this “great food”. Truth is that i was the one that felt sorry because i wished for people to just get it. My husband is now and advocate for plant based eating! Our children are plant based and my family is aware and making strides in the right direction.
There is so much positivity in eating clean nutritious food that far outweighs the consumption of dead flesh. The facts are that all the animals we eat get their protein from plants, so why are you eating the animal that eats the plant for your source of protein? I encourage you to be brave souls, stay healthy and be strong by eating plants! You’re one excuse away from a better healthier version of yourself.
Now is the time!
