19 Aug The Master Plant
This is probably one of the most controversial topics of our time. A plant from the Earth that has been in such a negative light for so many years has now emerged to being a plant that has several healing properties. Marijuana, Weed, Cannabis, Pot, Grass, Mary Jane, Ganja, Kush, Spliff, Hemp whatever you want to call it, is still a highly debated topic today. I grew up with the understanding that it is a drug and that I should stay away from it. And although you can’t overdose, it is also known as a gateway drug into the dark world of more addictive substances. So much has changed in the last decade where more and more people are coming forth speaking up about the plants health benefits. Marijuana has been used by humans for at least 3,000 years to treat their conditions. According to FDA.gov the FDA has not approved Marijuana as a safe and effective drug for any indication. There are many speculations as to why they have yet to recognize it nationally as a medicinal plant. Many can question including myself how a drug like chemotherapy has become the number 1 prescribed method for cancer treatments and other diseases. This clearly has the support of the FDA and yet the FDA gets caught up in the weeds about the potency and lack of research of a natural plant which far outweighs the healing abilities of many approved drugs. However, the future is bright and as each day goes by more and more breakthroughs one state at a time are passing laws and recognizing the plants healing capabilities.
Just weeks before my mother passed from cancer she was in bed, antisocial and was lucky if she even had 4 hrs of sleep a night. We decided to introduce CBD oil and what we liked to call “Treats”. My siblings and I immediately saw her energy sky rocket, her appetite opened up and she slept like a baby through the night. I finally understood the families that were moving across the country just to have access to this medicine. For some relief! Relief that they’re loved ones can escape the pain.
Marijuana is said to treat nausea, vomiting, premenstrual syndrome, insomnia, migraines, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, alcohol abuse, collagen-induced arthritis, asthma, atherosclerosis, bipolar disorder, depression, Parkinson’s disease, sickle-cell disease, Alzheimer’s disease and the most exciting one of all in cancer treatment and prevention.
You may ask yourself what is the difference between CBD products, marijuana and Hemp? Why don’t we take a closer look…?
There is over 100 different chemical compounds in marijuana, CBD is one of them. CBD is short for Cannabidiol and it is the 2nd most active chemical in marijuana/cannabis. THC like CBD is also a chemical found in marijuana/cannabis. When you smoke weed you get high because of the THC. CBD however does not give you that high that THC would give you. When a plant contains less than 0.3% THC then it is considered Hemp, anything over 0.3% makes it marijuana.
CBD has been demonstrated as an effective treatment of epilepsy In several clinical trials, CBD affects growth of tumoral cell lines, but has no effect in most nontumor cells!!!! INSANE! CBD indirectly acts on the CB2 receptors, which may help with widespread pain relief by reducing inflammation.
Many videos went viral a few years ago of children getting seizures , and when given CBD they slowly calmed down. Not just one video! Several families were uploading these videos that went viral and changed my whole perspective on CBD.
When your child gets 1200 seizures a month! What do you do? Check out Charlottes web…
It is evident that the usage of this “drug” is not just recreational. When you have several families spread out across the country with similar success stories, it’s not something to ignore.
During your next shopping trip it is most likely that you will find CBD products. From lotion to shampoo, to makeup. There are so many companies jumping on this CBD craze. You can google it and thousands of companies and brands are selling it. There is accessibility to CBD everywhere. From your local pharmacy to ordering through amazon prime. The CBD market is expected to make 2.15 Billion by 2021!! When companies like coca cola are keeping a close eye to possibly add to its beverages then you know you have to watch out.
Like most things, you will find that the marketing that comes along with these products offer you solutions for all of your problems. Like the wise words “If its too good to be true than it probably is”. I recommend that you select your products with caution and do your research to ensure you receive the benefits you are looking for.
As I’m writing the world is ever changing, more laws are being passed recognizing the plants health benefits and legalizing it for recreational and medical usage. Today we are mis informed on drug consumption. Society easily creates the illusion that marijuana is highlighted as an addictive drug that can lead to a criminal world, but the truth is we are more accepting of engineered man-made drugs that are composed of so many chemical compounds to offer a quick healing solution. The reality is we are surrounded by more natural plant-based healing solutions and marijuana is the tip of the iceberg. The lack of knowledge and the fear of the unknown keep us from maximizing from the world’s natural resources.
There are so many opinions around this subject matter. Some of those opinions are driven by money, others are driven by compassion for life and others to simply just get high. The reality continues to be debated on how we move forward. Let’s hope that its sooner than later to give accessibility to those in need versus the bureaucracy of politics.
